Asumani Serugendo, Campaigner

Asumani Serugendo joined TEA in mid May 2007 as a campaigner, with a specialty in food policy issues.

He comes to TEA after working 3 years with Consumers International (CI), a global organization campaigning for consumers rights, including the right to satisfaction of basic needs, the right to safety and the right to a healthy environment. In the CI Africa branch, Asumani was actively involved in the Food and Nutrition program, covering issues related to Food Security, Food Safety, Biotechnology and Sustainable Food Production and Consumption. He did research, community education, public capacity building and advocacy, and networking, all with the aim to advocate for access to healthy food for all.

After graduating from the Nutrition School at the University of Rwanda in 1985, Asumani was appointed as a Food Research Technician to the Food and Marketing Board in Rwanda. In cooperation with the University of Minnesota, he conducted research aimed at improving food distribution and nutrition value for local foods.

In addition to his interest in food and nutrition issues, Asumani is committed to advocate for a healthy environment.
