Volunteer Coordinator Assistant

Commitment: 5-10 hours per week
TEA is looking for motivated, energetic and committed volunteer to help coordinate other volunteers with community outreach, including tabling at events, speaking at schools. Candidates will work mainly from the TEA office but must be willing to work outside in the community when necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This individual will:
- Help recruit volunteers and keep them engaged with the organization
- Draft weekly Volunteer Call-out emails
- Train new volunteers on TEA and TEA campaigns
- Help respond to requests for TEA to attend events
- Seek out events to attend and organizations that TEA can connect with
- Organize interested volunteers to attend events
- Attend events on behalf of TEA
- Put together necessary materials (pamphlets, facts sheets, etc) for community outreach
The successful candidate will report directly to TEA's Community Outreach Coordinator, and actively work with all TEA staff to inform them of upcoming events and help them reach out to various communities.
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills and organizational skills
- Enthusiastic and outgoing
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to volunteer on some evenings and weekends
- A passion for environmental and social justice issues
- Able to work occasional weekends (to attend community events and meetings)
- Some experience coordinating volunteers and events an asset
- Some understanding of the City of Toronto's political structure
After the first few weeks of becoming familiar with the organization and training, this will be a fairly independent position. This is an excellent opportunity to network with other environmental non profit organizations, community groups, neighbourhood associations, and members of the Toronto community. This is an opportunity to practice communication skills, organization skills, event organizing skills, managerial skills, and presentation skills. The candidate will also learn about many local environmental issues and events happening throughout the GTA, as well as have the opportunity to interact with Torontonians on those issues.

Community Outreach Volunteer Captain

Number of Positions: Many
Location: Greater Toronto Area
Commences: As soon as possible
Duration: September 2011 or longer depending on how the Campaign unfolds
Commitment: 2-5 hours per week or more if you are available
TEA is looking for a motivated, energetic and committed group of volunteer captains for the City Service Review Campaign. The volunteer captains will be directly involved in leading other volunteers to do outreach work for the campaign. Community outreach work includes tabling at events, flyer drops, street canvass, evening phone banks to TEA members, etc. Most of the work will happen outside the TEA office.
Ideally each volunteer captain will do outreach work, and help mobilize volunteers in their neighbourhood.

- Attend events and community meetings on behalf of TEA
- Help recruit new volunteers and keep them engaged with the organization
Help lead flyer drops, street canvass, door-to-door door canvass, phone-banks, etc. - Help with data entry when needed
- Put together necessary materials (pamphlets, facts sheets, etc) for community outreach
- Train new volunteers on TEA and City Service Review campaign
The captains will report directly to TEA's Community Outreach Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator Assistant. When necessary, they will actively work with all TEA staff informing them of upcoming events and help them reach out to various communities.
