Council Watch - Happy Holidays from TEA

Happy Holidays from TEA!

Thanks to all of our members and supporters - we've had an excellent year!  We've had a lot of battles and a lot of victories this year, thanks to you.
Our membership has skyrocketed, we've got more donorssubscribers andvolunteers than ever before!

We've got a big year ahead. We've asked Santa for some help with our wish list for 2012, but we'll need your help too!

TEA's Tips for a Greener Holiday

Check out TEA's 10 Tips to Green your Holiday online, or download the longer Green Holiday Guide - created a few years ago and reused and recycled just for you!

Tip #9: For a carbon-neutral, packaging free and eco-friendly gift, consider making a donation to TEA in someone's honour!

Budget hearings - public calls for no cuts to key services

On December 8 & 9, over 300 people signed up to tell the Budget Committee that the Mayor's 2012 budget cuts are not wanted by Torontonians. TEA  campaigners were there to talk about the environmental impacts of cuts to transit, environmental education programs, the climate change strategy and more. Read more on the TEA website.

Councillors across the City are now talking with their residents, and preparing for the big debate and vote at Council on January 17th.

Contact your Councillor today - you can have an impact!
In November, Councillors heard from residents about the environmental threats in the water and waste budgets, and they listened!

TTCriders speak out against cuts & fare hikes

On December 14, nearly 80 people told the TTC that cuts to bus service during record ridership doesn't make sense.

The good news is that the Commissioners listened - cuts to busiest routes were cancelled, other cuts have been delayed, and we might still be able to stop them entirely! Read about the meeting here.

The bad news is that a 10 cent fare hike was approved for 2012, and the TTC agreed to the principle of 10 cent fare hikes for 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Send an email to City Hall to say no to fare hikes now.

TEA Holiday Hours

The TEA office will be closed from Friday December 23 to January 2nd inclusive - have a great holiday!

EcoBunk!

TEA's annual fundraiser night was a smashing success! Thanks to the many generous sponsors and donors, we broke a fundraising record for the 20 years of the event!

Thanks to our Executive Director Franz Hartmann- who raised nearly $4000 to shave his head!
(Don't worry, we bought him a winter toque to stay warm!)
