Digital Communications Assistant

TEA is hiring a Digital Communications Assistant for a 16 week contract.

The Toronto Environmental Alliance (TEA) was founded in 1988. Our mandate is to promote a greener Toronto for all. We work with concerned individuals and grassroots organizations, professionals and workers, as well as elected officials, encouraging the participation of local people on local issues. TEA envisions Toronto as a green, healthy and equitable city with economic activity that sustains our environment.

TEA is recognized locally and nationally for our municipal work on climate change, waste reduction, toxics reduction, transit, Greenbelt protection, energy efficiency and green power -- issues we believe are critical to the health and well-being of Toronto residents. Our collaborations with the community (eg. community groups, local labour groups, small businesses, anti-poverty groups) are cherished and key to our past and future successes.

The Position:

The Digital Communications Assistant position is designed to provide support in the development and management of TEA’s digital communications to help engage TEA supporters and the general public. The Digital Communications Assistant will report to the Campaign Engagement Coordinator and provide communications support to TEA’s for campaigns and development teams.

This position is funded by the YMCA's Youth Digital Skills Internship Program. In order to qualify for this internship, you must be below the age of 30 and a recent graduate who is unemployed or under-employed.

Duration: 16 weeks

Hours: 37.5 per week

Pay: $16.00/hr

Dates: August 29, 2016  - December 16, 2016 (some flexibility on start and end dates)

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Helping to develop social media and website content for campaigns and projects, working with relevant staff on digital strategy
  • Daily monitoring and scanning of social media (with guidance from relevant staff for content)
  • Preparing and posting content on project websites related to specific campaigns and assisting with other website updates and maintenance
  • Proof-reading and editing copy for social media and blog posts, as well as print publications
  • Preparing infographics and/or other visual content to be used on our website and other materials
  • Assisting other staff with member communications and creative new engagement strategies
  • Provide communications support to development staff in engaging TEA’s supporter base.
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Experience and/or education in communications, writing, social media, or marketing, preferably in the non-profit sector
  • Knowledge of digital communications including social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram)
  • Interest/knowledge of environmental issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interest and/or awareness in environmental issues/environmental justice.
  • Experience with graphic design, Adobe Photoshop, videography, web-based design programs, HTML, and/or digital mapping would be a strong asset

The successful candidate will gain experience working with TEA’s database NationBuilder, and also build skills related to digital communications within a non-profit setting.
