Humber River

Welcome to the Greenbelt: A Celebration in the Humber River

The Don River, Humber River and Etobicoke Creek are now a part of Ontario’s Greenbelt. Together, we made this happen - so now let’s come together to celebrate!

For more than 12 years, Ontario’s Greenbelt has protected almost 2 million acres of farmland, forests, lakes, rivers, and wetlands. In fact, the Greenbelt contains so many precious waterways, it could be thought of as Ontario’s bluebelt.

After 8 years of campaigning with victories all along the way, it’s official: we’ve grown the Greenbelt into our city's borders, west of the Rouge River. The Greenbelt adds another layer of protection to our precious ravines from their start in their headwaters north of the city to Lake Ontario.

To show our gratitude to the thousands of people who joined our 8-year campaign to grow the Greenbelt into our urban rivers, TEA is holding a pop-up celebration to connect to our precious ravines and celebrate their new protection under the Greenbelt.

Please join us on Sunday, October 1st as we welcome the Humber River to Ontario’s Greenbelt.

  • Find an access point to the Humber River Trail or enter the ravine off of Bloor Street, near Old Mill Subway Station (map view)

  • Visit the info tent to learn about the Greenbelt, share your concerns and priorities for the ravines, pick up resources, kids activity books, guides and a Greenbelt tote bag.

  • At 2:00 pm, join a short talk about the ravine’s history and how the Humber River is a part of Toronto's green infrastructure.

  • At 2:30 pm, we’ll officially welcome the Greenbelt into Toronto’s ravines with a temporary “Welcome the Greenbelt" sign and group photo.

  • Explore the river by kayak or canoe with discounted canoe rentals available in King's Mill Park North. To help us celebrate ravine and water protection, Toronto Adventures is offering 50% off the cost of renting a canoe or kayak! (RSVP to receive the code for discounted rentals. Advance booking is strongly suggested.)
