NGO Letter to MOE - Waste Reduction Act - September 2013

On September 4, 2013, TEA and over a dozen other NGOs (non-governmental organizations) submitted a joint statement to the Ministry of the Environment on the proposed Waste Reduction Act (Bill 91) and accompanying Strategy.

The letter highlighted four important principles.

  1.  Protection of the environment and human health must be the primary goal of Bill 91.
  2.  A goal of zero waste should be explicit in the Waste Reduction Act.
  3.  A clear hierarchy of waste reduction is essential.
  4.  Polluter Pays: Waste from all sectors, geographical regions and in all forms should be regulated
