City Service Review - Public Consultation

A new City Manager's report summarizes the public comments provided on the survey and by written and in-person submissions to the special Standing Committee meetings in July. The report compares the consultant's recommended cuts with the public input.

In May and June the City of Toronto asked Torontonians for their feedback on core services. On Monday July 11th, the City reported on what Torontonians said about city services.
Almost 13,000 Torontonians participated in the City's public consultation process -- attending a discussion session or completing the survey online.
It's clear that the vast majority of Torontonians don't want cuts to our important city services and support property tax increases and user fee increases to maintain or improve Toronto’s services.
Here are highlights from the report:
- 12,955: the number of participants who filled out the city's survey
- 81 out of 100: level of importance given to "environmental issues" by participants;
- 93: percentage of participants who rated environmental programs as: "necessary for the city" (68%) or "contributes to the city" (25%)
- 99: percentage of participants who rated the TTC as: "necessary for the city" (95%) or "contributes to the city" (5%)
- 97: percentage of participants who rated "garbage, organics, recycling and hazardous waste collection as: "necessary for the city" (86%) or "contributes to the city" (11%)
- 1 out of 5: rank given to "increase property taxes to keep the same level of service" by participants as the best financial strategy for the city
- 5 out of 5: rank given to "no increase in user fees and taxes even if this means reducing the level of service" by participants as the best financial strategy for the city
