Community Right to Know E-Bulletin (October 2007)
SECRECY IS TOXIC WEBSITE www.secrecyistoxic.ca
The CRTK campaign website is up and running! Last June we asked the public to document their local toxic concerns. Thank you for your submissions! The website includes an online interactive map of Toronto that takes the viewer through pictures and stories of community concern around pollution and success stories around prevention. It is also full of great information about our campaign and tips on how to reduce toxic chemicals in your home and environment. TEA believes the website will become a critical tool in proving the need for a Community Right to Know bylaw.
PROVINCIAL PROMISES
The Liberals have promised to introduce aggressive policies in reducing toxic chemical use and emissions.
1. New toxic-reduction law, which will require companies that emit toxic pollution to reduce their emissions.
2. Province wide ban on the cosmetic use of pesticides
3. Carcinogen-use Reduction Strategy which will identify, target and reduce the number of cancer-causing agents released into the environment.
A number of NGOs are monitoring the government’s progress, TEA will keep you updated and informed and we will let know when to take action.
HIGH SCHOOL CRTK WORKSHOPS
In 2007, TEA conducted workshops in a number of high schools across Toronto. If you are a student or teacher and would like us to make a 50 minute presentation on the nature of toxic chemicals and our Community Right to Know campaign please contact Lina Cino at 416-596-0660 or [email protected].
