RE: Small ‘cogeneration’ energy plants rejected, January 16, 2012
Toronto Star
It’s time Torontonians called their MPPs and demanded that provincial agencies that regulate our electricity systems get their act together.
The Ontario Power Authority said no to three GTA cogeneration proposals that would have simultaneously created much-needed green jobs, reduced our reliance on expensive and dangerous nuclear energy and helped create a greener, smarter grid.
Last week we learned the Ontario Energy Board said no to Toronto Hydro’s plans to upgrade our aging infrastructure.
Everyone agrees we need major investments in our aging electricity system as well as in less expensive, more environmentally friendly power generation, like cogeneration. But all attempts to make this happen seem to get nowhere.
It’s time Torontonians pick up their phones and demand their MPPs ask the provincial minister of energy to call a meeting with the heads of Ontario’s energy agencies and Toronto Hydro and figure out a way forward.
