TEA explains why zero waste and the circular economy is important for the City of Toronto

The City has launched an online survey (open until Oct. 4th) to hear public feedback on a plan to license Toronto landlords of rental apartment buildings.

On September 9th TEA appeared before the City of Toronto Parks and Environment Committee to talk about the recent heat waves that have been affecting the city. We talked about the need ensure the safety of the city’s residents and green spaces in the face of a changing climate.

The City is currently considering whether and how to license landlords and rental units in an effort to improve living conditions for the half of Torontonians who live in rental housing. This is not only an opportunity to improve living conditions, but also to address some important environmental issues.

Thanks to pressure from TEA and our supporters, Toronto has agreed to tackle organic waste first, promote a sharing economy, and improve collection services to keep valuable materials out of our landfill. Toronto's new Waste Strategy will help get us on the path to zero waste.
