TEA was one of the few environmental groups accepted to appear before the Standing Committee on General Government to address concerns about Bill 4. The Bill would dismantle the cap and trade program and repeal Ontario Climate Change Action Plan. The committee also soliciting ideas and insights to help inform the development of a new climate action plan.

Premier Doug Ford announced his government would slash the size of Toronto City Council from 47 Councillors to 25. While the Province has the legal right to do this, this proposed move is nothing less than an attack on local democracy, civic engagement in Toronto and a healthy environment.

Toronto just passed a resolution to the Federal government asking for a national strategy on plastics. A national strategy on plastics could create a uniform approach for all provinces and cities, setting national targets and standards, and holding the multi-national companies that create plastics responsible for the environmental impacts.

New rules to ban or put fees on harmful single-use plastics could be coming to Toronto within the next year.
