Toronto is developing a Long Term Waste Plan for what to do with our city's waste over the next 30-50 years. This is an important environmental decision, and we need to push for a focus on Reducing, Reusing and Recycling our waste.

Thanks to pressure from TEA and our supporters, Toronto has agreed to tackle organic waste first, promote a sharing economy, and improve collection services to keep valuable materials out of our landfill. Toronto's new Waste Strategy will help get us on the path to zero waste.

Inspired by the amazing zero waste success story of 430 Mayfair on the Green, Mayor Tory and Toronto's Solid Waste department just launched the Towering Challenge, a friendly challenge to all other multi-residential buildings in Toronto to get creative to reduce waste.

Over 500 people signed our Organics First petition within days. We sent a clear message: we want organics in the Green Bin, not in our landfill.

Focusing on organics first in the new Waste Strategy will set Toronto on the path to zero waste.

Ontario is supporting the use of Renewable Natural Gas as one way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Ontario. One source can be found in our green bins.

Zero waste protects the environment, benefits communities and supports a strong local economy.
