TEA convinces Council to include diversion in long term waste plan

Toronto City Council voted to develop a Long Term Waste Management Strategy in July 2013.

The good news is that TEA convinced Councillors to modify the original proposal to ensure that waste diversion would be a key focus of the strategy.

The initial staff proposal focused mostly on waste disposal options for Toronto in the next 30-50 years. TEA deputations to the Public Works & Infrastructure Committee pointed out that Toronto needs a long term waste diversion strategy, not just a disposal strategy.

Specifically TEA convinced Council to include the development of a long term waste diversion strategy, expanding waste diversion services to all parts of Toronto, and to evaluate waste reduction education programs.
