“Good News Bad News” Executive Committee Meeting

At the Executive Committee meeting on September 19, 2011, the Committee considered the City Manager's report on Recommended Service Cuts. There is good news and bad news coming out of the 20 hour meeting that ended at 5:20 am on Tuesday September 20th.

The bad news is that important environmental services remained on the chopping block at City Hall. The good news is that the public outcry pushed the Committee to put off the decision about whether to cut some services to the budget debate scheduled to start in November. You can read the final decision notes on the City website.

After more than 200 citizens spoke to the Committee, a number of cuts were approved and many deferred to be considered for cuts during the 2012 budget process.

TEA staff were at the meeting, to speak about important environmental issues. Deputations were cut down to only two minutes (from the usual five), but we did our best to make it clear that environmental services are essential to Toronto.
