December 2014: Waste Diversion Ontario (WDO), the decision-making body, announced their final decision to reject the Call2Recycle battery recycling proposal.

WDO had undertaken consultations and research into different recycling methods, technology and calculation processes, but could not conclude that counting incineration 'slag' met the recycling standards of the existing program.
