"Karen Wirsig of the group Environmental Defence, on the other hand, says incineration should be avoided at all costs . She says it produces poisonous gases for nearby residents, not to mention toxic ash that must be buried in specialized landfills.
Emily Alfred of the Toronto Environmental Alliance agrees. She argues that the most electricity generated by incineration is burning plastics , which should be recycled instead, she says. That's not renewable energy , she says."
