TAKE ACTION: Tell City Hall to Ban Single-Use Plastics

UPDATE

On May 23, 2024 City Council voted to move forward! City staff can now start working on a plastic ban for Toronto! We’re not done yet though, they’ll report back on the details at the end of 2024 at which point we’ll be there to get this ban across the finish line. Read more about it here.

The federal government’s new ban on many single-use items like plastic bags, foam and black plastic foodware containers is under threat, with oil and plastic industries aggressively fighting it in court.

Toronto City Hall can stand up to these corporate bullies by passing a municipal ban on these items, to make sure that they’re gone for good. Other Canadian cities have already passed their own local bans on single-use plastics that parallels the federal ban. Businesses big and small have already phased out harmful single-use plastics and we’re already seeing fewer plastic bags floating in our ravines and waterways. We can't go backwards.

Toronto Council’s Infrastructure & Environment Committee will be voting soon on this issue.

Use our tool to send a letter to your local Councillor, the Mayor, and the Chair of the Infrastructure and Environment Committee.

We need your voices to speak up and tell City Hall to stay strong and prevent backtracking by passing a local ban. Now that they’re gone, let’s make sure they don’t come back!

Thank you for your support for a greener and equitable city for all.
