TELL DOUG FORD: Stop the Destruction

In the last few weeks, the Ford government has pushed through new legislation that attacks the environment, local democracy, tenants, the Greenbelt, and Toronto’s climate plan.

On November 28, the Province passed Bill 23 - Ford’s harmful “housing” bill which removes tenant protections, guts municipal green building standards, silences conservation authorities and reduces parkland.

The Ford government rammed through this legislation despite outcry from First Nations, municipalities, scientists, and a broad range of advocacy groups.

Bill 23 will:

  • Make it impossible for Toronto to meet its climate goals by gutting the Toronto Green Standard for buildings.
  • Remove critical wetland and woodland protections and allow developers to build in environmentally-sensitive areas and silence the conservation authorities who protect these areas.
  • Dismantle tenant rights and defund affordable housing programs.
  • Make homes more expensive for residents by allowing developers to build with weaker requirements for insulation, flood protection, water efficiency, and EV charger installation.
  • Reduce the quality and quantity of new parks by changing how developers financially contribute to new parkland.

At the same time, the Ford government is backtracking on a promise not to remove lands from Ontario’s Greenbelt and undermining local democracy with Bill 39, which allows the mayor to win votes with the support of only a third of City Council.

Now is the time to speak up. These actions undermine local democracy and put our communities and the environment at risk.

Contact Premier Ford and your MPP to repeal Bill 23, keep the Greenbelt intact, and oppose destructive environmental actions.
