For immediate release.

June 26, 2023

Toronto, ON – TEA congratulates Toronto's incoming Mayor, Olivia Chow. We are looking to our new Mayor to work with City Council to address Toronto’s most pressing social and environmental issues.

"We need our new Mayor to take bold steps to cut carbon emissions, get Toronto’s climate and environmental plans on track, and protect us during storms, floods, and heatwaves,” says Sarah Buchanan, Campaigns Director at TEA.

“Olivia Chow has promised to reverse TTC service cuts, invest in programs to make housing more affordable, climate friendly and safe, and bring in new funding tools like a levy for commercial parking lot owners. These commitments could transform Toronto, and we'll be pushing action every step of the way.”

We are excited to continue our work to build a greener, more equitable city with new leadership at City Hall. Voters have clearly asked for a new approach to addressing the complex issues Toronto is facing. As Toronto’s environmental watchdog, TEA will work hard to ensure the Mayor and Council follow through on their environmental commitments.
