TEA wants to help you fight back against Premier Ford’s short-sighted idea for a five-fold expansion of Toronto’s Island Airport. 

Bulldozing more of our waterfront and bringing in loud, polluting jets is a terrible plan for our city and our environment. And we know that the federal government has the power to stop this plan before it takes hold - but only if we keep the heat on. 

Please fill out our online action calling on your local MP to stop the airport expansion. You can also fill out the official federal government online consultation before July 24th.

We’ve been hitting the streets and parks of Toronto to spread the word about the destructive impacts of the expansion. Why? Because we know that support for jets is soft - once people hear facts like how often jets would be taking off from Toronto Island (every 2.5 minutes!), their support plummets.

Key Facts:

• Five times more airport passengers will bring a traffic nightmare to our downtown core - more Ubers and vehicles added to already congested roads.
• The province could bulldoze and pave many green spaces - parts of Toronto Island, Little Norway Park and others, and paving the lake to make the runway almost 1km longer.
• Way more air pollution downtown if big jets are allowed - Jet emissions could increase by 360% in an area that is already polluted by existing smaller planes. This will worsen health impacts - lung cancers, cardiovascular illnesses, and more.
• Tens of thousands of new housing units on the waterfront would be cancelled to make room for a flight path for jets, with many more existing units losing the ability to open windows.
• The federal government has the power to stop this. The Toronto Port Authority (TPA), which owns the Toronto Island Airport, is a federal agency, and the feds are part of the Tripartite Agreement, which governs whether jets will be allowed or not.
