Toronto's ChemTRAC Program gives Torontonians the hard-won 'right to know' about where toxic chemicals are found in our communities. But ChemTRAC hasn't just served to inform the public. 64% of the ChemTRAC reporting businesses surveyed in 2013 said the ChemTRAC Program has increased their awareness about how to reduce toxic chemicals in their workplace.
Toronto Public Health recently pointed out that "the next challenge is to use this awareness to mobilize businesses to implement pollution prevention techniques".
The good news is that some Toronto companies are ahead of the curve. They are already proving their green leadership by reducing their use and release of toxic chemicals. These good news stories must be celebrated and widely shared to inspire more businesses to take action.
